Welcome!

Hi.

I've lost interest in Facebook and other popular social media, as I don't think that they bring out the best in me.  So I've created this blog to share what I'd normally post to Facebook, and thereby give family and friends a way to stay in touch, without having to go through popular social media.

Some things you should know about the blog.  I've borrowed the name for the blog from the title of a memoir by the nature writer, Harry Middleton.  Middleton's among the many authors whose work I've come to value over the course of my life because...they've taught me that the earth is enough.

Among the other teachers I'll undoubtedly focus upon will be the poet and novelist Jim Harrison, who was fond of reminding his readers that "We are nature too."  If we are nature, too, then we are enough.

The earth is enough.  It has a lot to teach us.  We are enough.  We have a lot to teach and learn from each other.

  1. Green will always turn to grey. The question is for how long and also when? New Dark Age coming? It used to seem unlikely, but we have made a disturbing amount of progress in that direction in the last twenty or so years. Neil Postman and others definitely warned us of the possibility.

    1. It seems to me that, since the Enlightenment, science has relied on algorithmic methods to make increasingly accurate predictions about the course of future phenomena and to dominate and control nature. Of course the technical successes of the sciences threaten to disrupt the environment and in turn affect the utility of the algorithmic methods. For example, algorithmic methods were instrumental for tapping into atomic energy and we still face the threat of nuclear Armageddon. How close is the Doomsday Clock to midnight?
